Map/Directions

This multi-use camp is located on 250 acres and contains a rich mixture of pastureland, oak trees and several private stocked fishing ponds. It can be an excellent location for Cub Scout day activities on weekends, and weekend overnight camping for Boy Scout troops and Venture crews. Camp Alma McHenry is about an hour and a half drive from Austin.

Camping

Camping is primitive-style, and there are no defined campsites. There is drinking water available at the camp, but there are no bathroom facilities.

January 1-December 31

- Open for weekend camping
- May not be available during certain periods of the year because of district camporees

Program areas

Fishing

- No Council fee; adults should have current state fishing license
- Stocked ponds: Largemouth Bass, Catfish, Sunfish, Crappie

How do we reserve a spot?

  • Capitol Area Council units do not have to pay a camping fee to use any Capitol Area Council camping property for regular weekend camping or day events. Out of Council units will have to pay $3 per camper
  • Campsites are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis
  • Capitol Area Council units: CLICK HERE to get our council's Short Term Camping Permit. Complete it and return it to our council's office at least 14 days before your trip.
  • Out of council units: CLICK HERE to get the Capitol Area Council's Short Term Camping Permit. Complete it and return it to the Capitol Area Council's office at least 14 days before your trip.
  • If you are less than 500 miles from this camp, CLICK HERE to get BSA's Local Tour Permit. Complete it and return it to your home council's office at least 14 days before your trip.
  • If you are more than 500 miles from this camp, CLICK HERE to get BSA's National Tour Permit. Complete it and return it to your home council's office at least 30 days before your trip.
  • All units must satisfy BSA two deep leadership standards
  • All program area fees must be paid in advance to the Capitol Area Council office
