Sea Scouting/What is Sea Scouting?

What's the one thing that makes Sea Scouting unique? It's getting out on the water! Sea Scout units can use a variety of boats; from outboard motorboats to racing sailboats. But no matter how your ship gets to sea, you'll discover a thrill that you just can't get anywhere else. You belong to a world that is distinct from anything on shore; with its own language and practice.

You can learn to sail, to row, to paddle, to water ski, and to keep a boat in shape; you can cruise local waters or go sailing on long cruises far from home. You can learn to Scuba dive and take care of boats. You'll be active in camping, social events, tours, regattas, excursions, and seamanship contests. You'll also have a chance to develop maritime skills that can lead to careers later on.

Capitol Area Council’s Squadron of Sea Scout Ships includes ships that focus on sailing, powerboats, canoes and kayaks, even SCUBA diving. Our beautiful chain of Highland Lakes and nearby rivers offer endless year-round possibilities for aquatic adventure, and the Gulf Coast is close enough to provide opportunities for weekend and longer cruises!

Sea Scouting is a part of Venturing, a co-ed program for young men and women 14-20 years of age. CLICK HERE to access online brochures and videos with general information about the Sea Scouting program, awards and leader training.
