Camp Tom Wooten (Cub World)

Camp Details

  • 150 acres with access to shores of Lake Bastrop
  • Men’s/Women’s restrooms, shower facilities
  • Available for weekend camping except in June
  • Pool open May 15-September 30
  • At least one adult leader MUST be BALOO trained for overnight camping
  • Must reserve as a pack, not a den

Cub Scout Packs may camp overnight at Camp Tom Wooten for two nights. However, in addition to reserving your campsite(s), your pack must submit a Cub Scout Unit Camping Permit application form at least 90 days before the date of the camping trip.

 

Program Areas Information

  • Program areas are only available to units with camping reservations. No day use reservations.
  • Shooting Sports program areas are only available to units that have currently certified Range Safety Officers.
  • Pool is only available to units that have currently certified Safe Swim Defense volunteers that will exercise safe swim defense protocols.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS STAFFED BY PROGRAM RANGER: Program options can but are not limited to: include guided hikes (learn about Leave No Trace, local plants/animals), crafts , Native American Village (crafts, games, culture), The Mineshaft (learn about the gold rush), evening hikes, astronomy, and more. Each session with the staff is about 45 minutes.

BB Gun Range

  • $5 per participant
  • Must have Certified Range Officer
  • Only Scouts and adults can shoot (no siblings who are not Scouts)

Archery Range

  • $5 per participant
  • Must have Certified Range Officer
  • Only Scouts and adults can shoot (no siblings who are not Scouts)

Swimming Pool

  • $5 per participant
  • Must meet BSA Safe Swim Defense

Fishing

  • No council fee
  • Adults should have current state fishing license
  • Lake Bastrop: Largemouth Bass, Catfish, Sunfish, Crappie

 

General Information

  • Scouts BSA camping is not allowed at Camp Tom Wooten.
  • Please have a completed BSA Medical Form for every participating Scout and adult with your unit leader.
  • If using the pool, submit a completed swim check form for every participating Scout and adult
  • Campsites are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis
  • All units must satisfy BSA two deep leadership standards
  • All program area fees must be paid in advance to the Capitol Area Council office or Onsite to Program Ranger
  • Capitol Area Council units pay $3 per youth/adult to use our council camping properties for regular weekend camping or day events. Out of council units pay $6 per camper (youth or adult). These fees are used to offset camp cleaning supplies/services and operating expenses.
